Aharon Avni was one of an influential group of artists that developed a specifically Israeli language of modern painting in the 1930s and 40s, alongside Nachum Gutman and Shimshon Holzman. The colours and spontaneous handling of this work evoke the sound and feel of the market place. 

Avni was recently the subject of a retrospective exhibition at Herzliya Museum 'Aharon Avni: His Studio and Studia', curated by Ron Bartos, which ran from 2021-22.
